Seattle Metals Guild 2007 Washington Statewide High School Jewelry/Metals Exhibition

ELIGIBILITY

This competition is open to all high school students living in the state of Washington. All sculpture must use metal as the primary material. Jewelry may include alternative materials. Pieces will be considered as either Jewelry or Sculpture. Wall pieces must be ready to hang. Work made from kits is not allowed, only original artwork will be considered. No licensed images may be used. All artwork must have been created with the 2006-07 academic year in the high school classroom. There is a limit of five entries per school, one entry per student. Sculptures must be no larger than 2 feet by 2 feet and a maximum weight of 30lbs.

APPLICATION PROCESS

A separate entry form and artist statement must accompany each piece. Artwork, entry forms and artist statements may be delivered or shipped via UPS (with return shipping included) to Bellevue Arts Museum. Additional entry forms are available online at www.seattlemetalsguild.org under events.

RETURN INFORMATION

All artwork must have prepaid return shipping or be picked up on Saturday, June 9 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. All uncollected art work will be disposed of.

GUIDELINES FOR ARTIST STATEMENT

Statements must be 800 words or less. All Prize Winning students will be asked to read their artist's statements at the Awards Ceremony.

Below are some possible questions to answer in the artist's statement:
1. What in this piece reflects your personal feelings or ideas?
2. What did you learn from this project?
3. What is the central theme of your piece?
4. What, if anything, influenced you in making this piece?

JURORS

This is a juried competition. Jurors Phillip Baldwin, Mary Hu and Lynne Hull are all prominent northwest metalsmiths.

PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded to students for first, second, third and three honorable mentions in both Jewelry and Metal Sculpture categories.
