Metals Mixer

The chance to alloy with your fellow Guilders! We all love the Seattle Metals Guild lectures and workshops, but these events, while awesome and informative, tend to focus on a speaker or instructor. Metals Mixers are a little different: Casual gatherings all about socializing and community building.

Metals Mixers take place on the second Tuesday of each month (except December) at rotating locations around the Seattle area. Watch your newsletter and President’s emails for the next location! Anyone interested in jewelry or metal arts is welcome.

Studio Tour

Treat your muse to a Seattle Metals Guild Studio Tour. In June or July, SMG invites members on a journey into the personal studios of two to three local metalsmiths. Each year is completely different but always informative and fun. Study studio layouts, examine projects on the bench and often experience demonstrations by artists practicing skills you’ve never witnessed. Studios on tour in the past have included Erica Gordon of Steel Toe Studios, Lisa Geertsen and Andy Blakney of Firelight Forge, as well as the studios of Kirk Lang, Coral Shaffer and Dan Adams and Cynthia Toops.

Summer Picnic

The Summer Picnic is an annual Seattle Metals Guild tradition. Held at one of Seattle’s lovely parks, members can enjoy a little fresh air, good food, and the company of other metal artists. The Guild provides the meat and the heat, members are asked to bring a dish to share. Play Frisbee or bocce, talk about everything under the sun (literally, if the weather is nice!), or even go scavenge for cool bits and pieces to use in your next masterpiece. Be sure to join us for food, (maybe) sun, and fun!

Ornament Exchange

What could be sweeter than an evening of smiles, cheer and beautiful hand-crafted ornaments? The annual SMG Ornament Exchange Party is a much-anticipated annual exchange of jewelry for your Christmas tree, Festivus pole, or whatever you choose to decorate in the holiday season. Many ornaments exchanged at this event stay up all year.

The Ornament Exchange is a members-only event and is potluck, so bring your favorite dish to share. This is a great opportunity to try out that idea that’s been tugging at your mind but just hasn’t been built—test it out in ornament form first – it could be the start of a fantastic new direction! Come join your friends and colleagues for what is sure to be a great time. Held each year in mid December.
