For over 15 years jewelers, hollowware artists, sculptors, curators, students, hobbyists and professionals– makers and metals enthusiasts of all stripes– have come to Seattle for the Annual Northwest Jewelry and Metals Symposium to learn and to network. It has become one of the most anticipated and popular events offered by the Seattle Metals Guild.
Held on a mid-October Saturday, the Symposium is a carefully crafted day of presentations that span the rich spectrum of metal arts. Speakers have included emerging artists, studio jewelers, professors, public artists, and writers from around the world who speak on topics as varied as enameling, pewtersmithing and native American engraving to CAD/CAM, installation art and the behind the scenes secrets of museum curating.
Beginning at 9am and running until 6pm, Symposium day features 5 presentations, a treasure-filled silent auction (to benefit the Seattle Metals Guild), the towering tables of the Charon Kransen Book sale, generous breaks to visit with friends and establish new contacts and a tasty lunch to-boot.
The Symposium is designed to inform, entertain and provide an inclusive environment in which attendees can mix with presenters and beginners can rub elbows with icons. It is a democratic and revitalizing experience and a chance to expand your horizons.
Stay tuned for updates including a slate of Symposium presenters, accompanying events, registration prices and details.
