Join our Board of Directors!

Join our Board of Directors for the June 2024 Term

The Seattle Metals Guild is seeking dedicated community leaders to join our Board of Directors for the June 2024 - June 2026 term! Are you passionate about the advancement of the field of metalsmithing, lifelong learning, and community-based enrichment? Would you like to roll up your sleeves and work with a group of committed community leaders to drive more equitable arts opportunities in our city?

The Board of Directors supports the work of the Seattle Metals Guild and provides mission-based strategic governance. Board support is essential to achieving the Guild's mission and maintaining the organization’s financial and administrative health. Board positions have a term of two years, with an option to renew.

We hope you’ll apply for a role on our Board today!

Applications are open now and due by end of day Wednesday, May 15th.
A member of our board will follow up with all applicants by early-June.

Opportunities

We are in search of volunteers to help with a broad range of tasks on behalf of our membership. We are currently seeking Chairpersons for our Membership, Communications, Lecture Series, and Grants Committees, with additional opportunities to assist with Exhibitions and other Events. Those with experience or interest in graphic design, writing, event and exhibition planning, and grants administration are especially needed.

Benefits

Board Members have the opportunity to steer the success and future of the organization while engaging with a community of experienced members of the field. You'll have the opportunity to meet, share knowledge with, and inspire others within the organization. Members of the Executive committee (President, VP, Treasurer, Secretary) additionally enjoy free membership to the Guild.

Time commitments

Board Member contributions range from 3-20 hours per month and can vary over the course of the year, throughout their two-year term. Candidates for selection in 2024 should consider personal priorities for the next two years (June 2024 - June 2026.)

Realistically, Board Member contributions range from 3-20 hours per month and can vary over the course of the year. Some members are able to contribute more than others - we understand everyone is busy! Here are the ways in which we'd hope to see members contribute.

The guild holds monthly online meetings on the second Monday evening of each month. Attendance is required of Board Members, with exceptions made as needed.

  • Committee meetings
Participation on at least one Board Committee is required of all Board Members
    Annual retreat
Board Members are required to attend an in-person annual board retreat, held in the Seattle area in late summer.

  • Annual members' meeting
Board Members are required to attend an in-person annual members meeting, held in Western Washington in early summer.

  • Other events
Volunteering at or otherwise attending our annual Symposium and other events is strongly encouraged

Note that unlike most boards, members will not be solicited for cash or in-kind donations beyond the requirement to join our guild as a paying member. Membership fees are currently $20/year for students and $55/year for Individuals.
