Metals Mixers

These laid-back events are the perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow guild members and to check out neat hangout spots around Seattle. Bring a project you’ve recently finished, a project you’re working on, any questions you have, and your enthusiasm for making new jewelry/metal friends. Look for the chasing hammer to find our group.

Ornament Exchange Holiday Party

How it works: All those who make an ornament for the tree will drop their names into a basket then draw the name of another artist, whose ornament they will take home. This is a great opportunity to explore something new at your bench and share what you do with your friends and colleagues. And yes, there will be a tree on which to display all the amazing creations!

Next Ornament Exchange: December 2024

Symposium

Every fall we put together a full day line-up of world renowned jewelers and metalsmiths. There are always other social events and gatherings during the weekend, and usually and afterparty or gallery opening after the main event. Next in its 30th year, this annual gathering is an eagerly awaited tradition for Pacific Northwest metalsmiths, artists, and jewelers.

Silent Auction & Book Sale

In conjunction with the Symposium, we always have a silent auction and book sale. We are always looking for auction items that are going to help raise money for the guild’s operations like the symposium, artist grants, and more. We need your cool stuff to make this the best silent auction ever!

What we are looking for:

  • Items priced between a starting retail value of at least $10

  • Unusual materials, gemstones, and supplies.

  • Great books (please no magazines, pamphlets, fliers, newspapers, or unrelated books)

  • Functioning equipment and tools (used equipment needing a bit of love is ok!)

  • Things that are fantastic jewelry and metalsmith stuff you just don’t need or have room for and you want it to go to a place where it will be appreciated by another person!

  • Cool finished jewelry or collectible pieces. (yours or another artists)

  • Metalsmithing clothing and accessories like tees, aprons, & totes.

General Meeting

Every summer we host our annual general meeting for all members. At this meeting we go over the SMG news and updates for the year, have presentations from award winners, and catch up with friends!

Next General Meeting: June 2024

Lecture Series

Each new year, the Seattle Metals Guild produces and hosts a series of four lectures. Typically held the second Thursday of the month, these lectures are free to SMG members and open to the public. The Lecture Series organizers attempt to present a diverse selection of presenters, from a broad mix of metal artists to business owners who can offer a unique perspective in the field. Presenters have included jewelers, sculptors, world travelers, collectors, welders, sign makers, knife-makers, cad-cam specialists, craft show organizers, and even a man who makes armor for the movies! It is a great opportunity to learn and socialize.

Next lecture: Feb 2024

Biennial Members Exhibition

Every other year, SMG produces a grand exhibition, open to all SMG members. In 2023 the show will be held in the fall at North Seattle College.

To participate in the Biennial, you must be a current member. You may enter up to three pieces of recent work. The maximum size of pieces that can be displayed in the locked cases is 18″ x 18″ x 18″. Each display case is fitted with an alarm.

If you plan to submit wall art, please note that it can be fitted with an alarm ONLY if it can be securely attached to the wall. If your wall art does not lie flat against the wall or moves when people walk by, it cannot be fitted with an alarm. Also, artists planning on submitting very large or heavy pieces should plan on delivering and installing them at the Convention Center. Please contact Biennial@seattlemetalsguild.org if you have any questions about the suitability of your wall art.
